The Ideal Countess

The Ideal Countess

“For a first ball, it was surpassing all of Alice’s expectations, which were quite considerable since she’d been hearing about the splendor of the Season for the entirety of her seventeen years.”
Ah! That feeling when you read the first chapter of a new author’s book… a smile slowly creeps across your face and you think to yourself, “this is going to be good.” That was how my Monday evening started when I picked up The Ideal Countess by Katherine Grant.

Alice enters her first Season with all the fervor of a young woman about to experience a whole new world of adulthood. She is excited by the idea of falling in love, but a little less sure about the finality of marriage. Hugh is the nerdy, but kind of hot, neighbor who only has time for balls in order to make his sick mother happy. While Alice finds herself falling for a scoundrel, Hugh tries to find a way to protect her -and possibly win her heart?

This story is a masterpiece at developing the main character from a naive debutant to a mature, self-aware woman. This is one of those books that I highly recommend reading in one sitting. I loved being able to lose myself in the story.

I give The Ideal Countess the rare 5/5 🌟’s. It exceeded my expectations and hit every mark for a perfect love story. I know you will love it as much as I did!

Melissa has been in love with books since she was a child. As a young girl, in her Holly Hobby decorated room, she would sit and tape scraps of paper to her books so that she could organize them by the Dewey Decimal System. She is a huge advocate for helping children learn to love reading. Along with hosting an online Regency based book club and a book club at her home, she started a book club for kids at her son’s school. These days, Melissa can be found at the library writing a book review or tucked in some quiet corner having a love affair with a newly discovered romance novel.

You had me at “nerd” and “kind of hot”. Kidding! I love a book where the characters grow and mature before our very eyes. I’ve never read anything by this author and I’ll remedy that ASAP. Great review!
